How BushCo. Plans To Protect Itself From War Crimes Charges
Just when you thought the Bush Administration couldn't stoop any lower in its standards....well, they manage to do exactly that!
The Bush Administration is in the process of making changes to a war crimes law. Their changes would shield political appointees (read: Donald Rumsfeld), CIA officers, and former military personnel, from prosecution for degrading or humilitating treatment of detainees.
In short, they are trying to change a U.S. law that was passed in the 1990's, that criminalized violations of the Geneva Conventions. (Of course, why on earth would we want to follow the Geneva Conventions, I hear Alberto Gonzalez asking. It's so "quaint" and obsolote.")
