It appears as though the New York City Housing Authority is balancing its budget on the backs of the poor- the least of these.
The NYC Housing Authority says it is facing a budget shortfall of $168 million. So what is their proposal to dig themselves out of this hole? They want the poor to cough up more money.
They want to charge poor residents new fees, and increase old ones, including owning dishwashers and fixing toilets.
They propose charging tenants $5.75 per month for running washing machines and $5 per month to utilize dishwashers, while charging $10 per month for separate freezers.
Rep. Jerry Nadler noted that the federal government has taken less responsibility for public housing.
