He is a long-serving member of Congress who has gained a lot of respect on both sides of the aisle, for his leadership on military and foreign policy matters.
People on Capitol Hill may think many things of him, but one word that has never been used to describe him is "coward" (as freshman Rep. Jean Schmidt did today).
John Murtha wants to do the right thing by our troops.

The "ill planned war that was started and carried forward" by Democrats. Then in the same cut and run strategy that they are using self servingly today forced a pullout of Vietnam.
Result: Vietnam overrun by Communists and 3 million Cambodians slaughtered by the Khmer Rouge and Pol Pot.
If John Murtha wanted to do the right thing by our troops he would be supporting the job they are doing and not asking them to quit in the face of an enemy that is hoping the cowards will pull them out before the job is done.

This is will was carried forward by Democrats?
Excuse me, but George Bush resides at 1600 Penn Ave. And the last time I checked, he was a Republican.
Donald Rumsfeld was a Republican the last time I checked, too.
This is THEIR war.
Are you even aware of the fact that on the eve of the Iraq war, military leaders were on the ground in Iraq, reviewing some slides that had been prepared for them by the White House and Pentagon.
When they got to the slide on post-war planning, the slide said "To Be Provided."
And John Murtha is supporting our troops. Which is why he's spoken out as he has.
But of course, in your twisted mind, you only think someone is supporting the troops IF they support George Bush.
It's exactly because we DO support our troops, that we do not support the Iraq policies of this administration.

You know the real reason they didn't bother? Because everyone was certain Saddam had WMD's and had some level of cooparation with Al Qaeda.
But it's absolutely breathtaking that children who didn't have the time to read an 80 page digest of intelligence now claim to have been "misled" by documents that remained pristinely in their high school lockers for the entire semester.

You're right---the Democrats dropped the ball on Vietnam. And there's no excuse for that.
It's truly a tragedy that Lyndon Johnson further involved us Vietnam, because that's what he thought Kennedy would have done.
So the Democrats do not get a pass from me on Vietnam. We had no business there.
Secondly, you ask if I was married to someone who constantly criticized me, would I consider that support?
What kind of sense does that make?
We are NOT critizing the troops (except when they do awful things like torture).
We are not criticizing the troops. We are criticizing the policies of the half-ass commander in chief who sent them there.

No your criticisms of the Pentagon and the troops are a direct reflection on those in uniform and it is reprehensible.

I
So by your own "logic," I can assume that YOU DID NOT support our troops during the Carter Administration, and during the Clinton Administration, since you obviously did not support those Presidents.
Any time a Democratic Administration comes along, YOU don't support our troops.
I can draw that conclusion, based on your own "logic."

While yes I agree with what Clinton did in Kosovo, I don't agree with the media and everyone else who did not hold him to the same standard you are trying to hold Bush to. Clinton had no exit strategy, ( and there are still American troops there) did not get UN support and also gave Haliburton a no bid contract. Can you see the difference in your very shallow argument?
Comment by Elmers Brother— 2005/11/20 @ 02:21 PM — (Reply)
Excuse me, I do have a huge understanding of the military, thank you very much.
How dare you say that just because I don't agree with you, means I don't understand the military.
You chose this argument, not me.
Again, you said that because I don't support the Bush Administration and the Pentagon, I don't support the troops.
So of course I responded that by YOUR logic (or lack thereof) then during the Carter and Clinton Administrations, you did not support the troops, because you did not support Clinton and Carter.
