Required Reading for 11/14/05

Today's required reading:

1.  White House declines to totally rule out torture: http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/usattackstorture

2.  McCain: Torture Ban Needed for U.S. Image: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051113/ap_on_go_co/mccain_torture

It's a sad testament to the state of affairs in this country, and the quality of character of this administration, that we even have to have the above articles.  A U.S. Administration advocating U.S. sponsored torture!  These are not our values!

  1.

Helloooooooo......do you remember the beheadings of US citizens on Middle Eastern TV?

Personally I suspect that if you thought about it instead of spoutiing the liberal party line you would prefer that the beheaders be treated way short of the monsters they are on foreign soil rather than attacking naive liberals here in America and perhaps even capturing and beheading someone like say....you.

  2. "no spin zone"? are you serious? a light skimming of the uh to be charitable "material" on this particular blog reveals such liberal bias that even Carville and the Clintons would be dizzy after reading a sentence or two, assuming they can find any that are even remotely grammitically correct.

  8. I am proud of my liberal/left of center beliefs.

The neo-cons have tried to turn the word "liberal" into some dirty, four-letter word.

Secondly, I am a registered Independent, so I am not towing anyone's "party line."

I see you are the same person posting under different usernames. You are such a coward and not at all proud of YOUR beliefs, and that leads you to post anonymously.

Now, on to the issue at hand.

Our American values should say that we never use torture as a form of interrogation. Senator John McCain, a former POW, recognizes this, and has said in this week's issue of Newsweek that "abusive interrogation practices lead to bad intel."

Furthermore, if we are truly trying to win the hearts and minds of Iraqis, then I would submit to you that we DO NOT tell those very same Iraqis that we are smearing menstrual blood on them. We don't force them into some homoerotic pyramid while they are naked.

These should not be our values.

I want you to think about something:

This Administration has consistently changed the "rationale" for going into Iraq. But one of the "rationales" they gave was to help liberate the Iraqi people from a brutal dictator.

And I want you to ask yourself one question: How is it that we began to torture the very same people that we claimed to want to liberate? We tortured the people we said we were going to liberate.

Think about that, and read John McCain's op/ed:

  16. Because I am a registered Indepedent, that's how!!

I actually left the Democratic Party earlier this year.

I was very angry that only one U.S. Senator (Barbara Boxer) had the courage to do the right thing and sign on to the objection of the Ohio electors when the Congress met to certify the results of last year's election.

    Answer: Kerry won those states.
